Chocolate, cherries (or strawberries) and Valentine’s Day just go together!  So, why not whip up these easy to make dessert bars for your special someone this Valentine’s Day?!  This is also a great dessert to take to parties. Or, mix up a batch to have on hand during the holidays for those unexpected guests.

INGREDIENTS:

1 can pineapple
2 cans cherry pie filling
1 chocolate cake mix
1 cup quick cooking oats
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup coconut
2 sticks butter, melted
cherries

PREPARATION:

Spread pineapple in an ungreased 13×9 baking pan. Spread pie filling over pineapple. Sprinkle dry cake mix over filling. Top with dry oats, pecans and coconut. Pour melted butter evenly over the top.

Bake at 325* for approx. 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool, and then cut into squares. May be stored in an airtight container, or frozen for later!

For an added touch, top each square with a long stemmed cherry before serving!

VARIATIONS:

You may also use a white cake mix in place of the chocolate one.

Strawberries may be used in place of the cherries.
